About Company
Several popular methods for judging seed viability are less reliable than they seem. One widely repeated test involves dropping pot seeds into a glass of water, on the assumption that sinkers are healthy and floaters are dead, yet viable seeds sometimes float for hours. Squeezing a seed between the fingers can damage a perfectly good one. A small germination trial gives the only definite answer, provided growing is legal in the area.
