Cultivators rely on this method to preserve strong cannabis genetics once an outstanding plant has been found, since seeds from that plant would not reproduce it exactly. Mother plants can decline over time, however, particularly when infected with pathogens such as hop latent viroid. Tissue culture and regular testing are used to clean and maintain valuable lines over the long term.
